Map location in the EUI for 4G devices

Why won't your network track 4G trackers? I am trying to test some 4G trackers and I can't? it tells me "Locating the device is only possible when it's online via 2G"
I need to be able to track both 2G and 4G

Hi David,
we show the location of the device when using 2G by retrieving the cell information out of the network signaling information and then using a lookup function on the cell ID information. The mechanism to retrieve cell information and the mapping for 4G is different.
This does not mean you cannot test and use the 4G GPS tracker with EMnify - we provide 4G network coverage across the globe, but we are only able to show you the country and network operator reliably as location information.
We have implemented the cellID retrieval in our new dataplane which is incrementally rolled out. Therefore you see the cellID also for 4G for all devices that do not use a VPN service profile, CloudConnect or a traffic limit.
In case you do not use these features you should get the cell ID - and you can then see the cell identity in the portal under connectivity information as shown in the picture. With https://www.cellmapper.net/enbid you can then get the eNB-ID and with entering the eNB-ID in the Tower Search https://www.cellmapper.net/map?MCC=262&MNC=2 you can also see the antenna to which the device is connected to. Let me know if you are able to address your use case with this workaround.
In the future, we will rollout the new dataplane also for traffic limited devices, VPN and Cloudconnect - and we will also integrate the map functionality for 4G in the portal.

Would love to see a Geolocate feature for LTE SIMs

Hi David - I'm happy to announce that this feature was released for devices using our new dataplane. For these devices, you'll be able to see the location in the map on the portal for both 2G and 4G connections.
